At 02:50 Cumbria Fire and Rescue were called to a report of a fire at an hotel on Newby Bridge Road.
The fire was in the laundry room of the Beech Hill hotel all guests and staff had been evacuated when crews arrived.
Firefighters, two in breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to bring the fire under control.
A thermal imaging camera was then used to make sure there were no further hotspots.
Police attended as it is believed the fire had been started deliberately.
