Spiritual & Religious Care
At the Westmorland General Hospital the chapel is on level two on the main corridor and is open, at all times, for use by anyone in the hospital community who wants to have some time for prayer or quiet reflection.
This is also the case for Furness General Hospital, where the Chapel is centrally situated, on the main corridor on level four.
And at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, the Chapel is situated on the ground floor of the Medical Unit One on the Bromley Corridor and there is also a quiet room alongside.
There is a half hour service of Holy Communion every Sunday at Westmorland General Chapel at 1.45pm.
At Royal Lancaster Infirmary a service takes place at 11am.
There is an ecumenical service, only on the first Sunday in the month, at Furness General at 10.30am.
Holy Communion is taken to patients on the wards at all three sites every week.
If patients are from a faith other than Christian the chaplaincy staff will support them in any way they can in order for them to follow their faith whilst they are in hospital.
However the work of the Chaplaincy goes far beyond providing religious care. Spiritual care is about dealing with the things that are really significant to each of us as human beings and finding meaning and purpose in life is just as important whether you have a faith or not.
The chaplaincy staff and volunteers are here for all patients, relatives and staff and offer a listening ear, confidentiality and emotional support. They can be contacted on the internal telephone system:
WGH 55419
FGH 54029
RLI 53955
Or through the switchboard, or by leaving a message at the relevant Chapel Office (located in each case directly next to the Chapel).
